I'm Mel

Hi,

I am Melanie Alves da Silva Santos, Mel for short. I was born in São Paulo, Brazil and moved to New York City in 1999. I grew up in a single-parent, immigrant and low-income home. I had to fight for a spot at exceptional institutions and for career opportunities that were not created for me, and experienced a lot of "othering" in these spaces as a queer minority with my background.

It is because of this personal experience that I take pride in the work that I do: building efficient and unbiased hiring systems, securing diverse representation at all levels, and advising other BIPOC professionals looking for guidance navigating a job market that can seem intimidating and exclusive.
